Giant Black Marlin Fishing – Catch your grander!
Black Marlin Fishing Cairns
Heavy Tackle / September to December
September to December every year the female Big Black Marlin come into the reefs of North Queensland to spawn. The area is huge — over 200 nautical miles long. And from within this vast area of the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, Castille can offer a variety of charters, including live aboard, mothershipping and day trip options, across the areas off Cairns, Cooktown and Lizard Island, and everywhere in-between.
“The thrill of Marlin Fishing is like getting out of a normal car and jumping in to a Ferrari F1. It is the ultimate adrenalin buzz!”
It is a fact that 70% of all 1000+lbs marlin in the world caught or released each year are caught off The Great Barrier Reef. If you want to catch a grander marlin, fishing off Cairns is by far the best chance you can give yourself.
While most of the breeding fish, the big females, are between 700 and 1300lbs, there are also many male marlin from 200lbs up with the females, which give our anglers plenty of chances to catch all sizes of marlin.

The action never stops from dawn to dusk. We usually start with a snorkel on the GBR, then some bait fishing, jigging and popper throwing for many different species. They include scad, mackerel, yellow fin and dog tooth tuna, queen fish, coral trout, giant trevally and much more.
Once you’re all warmed up, it’s game on for the big girl! We usually wind up and head to our anchorage behind the reef about 6 PM each night normally feasting on our catch from the morning, sitting back and thinking could life get any better than this!
