Blue Marlin Classic15

Pre Tournament Update

It’s that time again when the blue marlin bite and the Garmin Blue Marlin Classic is held. The Gold Coast Game Fish Club is holding it’s annual heavy tackle tournament this weekend. The tournament is held each year and each year Castille Charters fishes and more often than not comes away with a handful of trophies. This year will we will defend our Champion Lady Angler and hopefully win Champion Boat as we narrowly missed that last year (we snapped a line on a fish that could have got us the win). To find out more about the tournament visit the Gold Coast Game Fish Club website.

Post Tournament Update

The Garmin Blue Marlin Classic was held with Castille Charters coming away with Champion Female for the third year in a row. The blue marlin gave us a little curry in very testing conditions but Katie was again all class. We missed out on Champion boat and place as we tagged one marlin with the winning boats on two. Whilst there were a few marlins caught, only three boats finished the tournament on two fish with plenty of boats on one. It looked like we were in with a chance to win first marlin of the tournament after we hooked up 5mins into start fishing… After getting a very feisty blue marlin and fighting the fish for almost an hour, another boat was lucky enough to hook up on a juvenile black marlin and tag their fish 10mins before we did. Luck was on their side that day. Whilst it was a blue marlin tournament, there were quiet a few small blacks caught with those boats lucky enough to have short fight times in very testing conditions. Congrats to all the boats that caught fish and to the winning boat Zeus.
